Slackline

Slacklines are loosely tightened lines which are tightened between two points. Trees are often used as fixation points, which stand apart about 15 to 25m. Slacking depends upon a mixture of balance, coordination, and concentration. Slacklining has been developed by hikers in the USA beginning of 80s. In the meantime, slacklines are worldwide known and a big fan community has developed.

Slacklines can be divided in different categories.

• The most common type of Slackline is the Lowline respectively Trickline. Here, a line is slightly tightened at knee to hip height.
• Jumplines are strongly tightened lines which allow backflips as well.
• Waterline are slacklines, which are tightened above water, whereas orientation is much more difficult, because fixation points for focusing on underground are missing.
• Highlines are tightened in great heights and can only be used with respective safety.
• Long Lines are extremely long slacklines, which can reach lengthes of up to 100m.

In order to establish slacklining in a permanent way, durability is of main interest. Therefore, slackliners should pay attention to protection of bark while using trees as fixation points. While the sets of the manufacturer's Slackline-Tools already include a tree protection, this is available as accessory at an affordable price for products of Gibbon.
